Sue and Ted Gould - Parents of resident

Our daughter Alison has been happily resident in an EVH home for about three years now. As parents we were very impressed with the preparation and care the staff took prior to her leaving home. They made the transition an easy move for her. She was 34 at the time and had always found it difficult and upsetting to move out of her comfort zone and try new things, although she is a sociable person. In the event, she settled down very quickly, becoming real pals with with the other two ladies in the house, who are roughly the same age.

She enjoyed choosing the furniture for her bedroom and the paint colour for the walls (a lovely bright pink!) as well as her own clothes. Its really a comfortable 'home from home', where everyone is helped to share the household tasks and contribute their ideas, especially on the important subject of meals!

Alison has been supported to attend the EVH day centre, starting off with a half day until she now goes three days a week. She likes doing the cooking, trampolining and music sessions. She also continues to have a day at the Cross Roads centre, which she has enjoyed for a long time.

The EVH staff have given Alison so much more confidence. She has a more varied social life too. There are birthday parties, discos, 10 pin bowling and cinema visits etc. The summer holiday is an exciting week, sometimes Blackpool or even Spain.

All the carers at EVH are so kind and considerate of Alison's foibles. She is always happy to return to the house after a visit to us and gets a big welcome. We couldn't have wished for a better situation for Alison.
