I have spent most of my adult life working in health and social care. I took a break so that I could take a degree but was pleased to return to working with adults with learning disabilities and associated challenging behaviour.

I have been a registered manager since 2000, as previously small home managers did not have to be registered. I have worked at East View Housing since 2006, having previously worked in both the public and private sector.

I was attracted to the company because of its resident centred ethos. I liked the fact that they had small resident groups living within the community. I was pleased to find that they actively promoted independence and choice, not only within their homes but also with their choice of activities. I have been impressed with the way the company supports staff to deal with challenging behaviour, offering excellent training.

Although the company does not have the same resources as larger companies, all the homes are attractive and well maintained. The advantage of being a smaller organisation is that the senior managment team are more accessible. Not only do they know all the residents, they know all the staff too, which enables everyone to feel valued. This is particularly evident at large social functions such as the Christmas party.

I thoroughly enjoy working for East View Housing because I feel valued and supported. I receive excellent training both for my staff team and myself and it is a pleasure to see the residents leading fulfilling lives and developing new skills. I have one of the best jobs in the world.
